Understanding the requirements of ISO 9001:2026

A practical introduction for organizations with or without an established ISO 9001 Quality Management System

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This one-day course provides a clear and practical understanding of ISO 9001:2026 and its requirements for an effective Quality Management System (QMS). It is suitable both for organizations beginning their QMS journey and for organizations that already operate or maintain an ISO 9001:2015-certified system.

The course explains the purpose and intent of the standard, the seven Quality Management Principles, the process approach and PDCA cycle, risk-based thinking, and the requirements in Clauses 4–10. Participants apply the requirements to realistic organizational situations and complete an initial self-assessment to identify implementation or improvement priorities.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  1. Explain what ISO, ISO 9001, and a process-based Quality Management System are—and why organizations establish and maintain a QMS;
  2. Describe the seven Quality Management Principles and relate them to customer confidence, organizational performance, and strategic direction;
  3. Explain the process approach, PDCA cycle, risk-based thinking, and their integration within the QMS;
  4. Interpret the intent and practical application of ISO 9001:2026 Clauses 4–10;
  5. Identify typical objective evidence that can demonstrate conformity and effective implementation of the requirements;
  6. Distinguish requirements for documented information from useful practices and avoid unnecessary documentation; and
  7. Apply the requirements in context, conduct an initial self-assessment, and identify practical next actions for establishing, aligning, transitioning, or improving the QMS.
